Shares in video game publishers were mixed on Tuesday after data showed a 7 percent rise in November sales but analysts were split over what the figures showed about the strength of the crucial holiday season.
The one undisputed bright spot in the figures was publisher Activision Inc., whose shares rose nearly 9 percent after it posted sharp sales gains in November on the strength of two new titles.
Overall software sales were up 7 percent in November, analysts said, citing research from the NPD Group. Excluding the declining sales of software for older game hardware, sales rose 14 percent.
The shares of the major game publishers have trended lower over the last two months, as concerns about both the strength of holiday sales and the effect of a lack of major hardware price cuts lead the financial community to question whether the companies could meet their forecasts. ...more at Yahoo News
