WiredRed announced that the company has signed a major OEM agreement with Sony Online Entertainment Inc. According to the agreement, SOE will leverage TeamSound by integrating it into PlanetSide, the massively multiplayer online action game, to power real-time voice interaction for team play.
TeamSound brings unprecedented player interaction to PlanetSide by providing very low latency rates, high quality sound and total integration of voice into the game itself. PlanetSide will utilize TeamSound to offer a squad-wide voice component that provides players with a better gaming experience through more cohesive team interaction.
According to Russell Shanks, senior vice president and Chief Operating Officer of Sony Online Entertainment, integrating real-time voice capabilities into PlanetSide is a feature that will add a new dimension to online gaming. PlanetSide launches May 19 and will be available in stores on May 20, 2003.
"PlanetSide offers online gamers around the world sophisticated, compelling gameplay that combines tactical decision, adrenaline-induced action and social involvement," said Russell Shanks. "WiredRed's TeamSound brings players the ability to communicate instantly to help create the type of social community without borders that we are known for."
TeamSound, a scalable, interactive voice conferencing technology based on WiredRed's Real-Time Routing Architecture, is currently used by more than one million PC game players worldwide.
"We are very excited that Sony Online Entertainment has chosen TeamSound to be a part of its newest online game PlanetSide," said WiredRed President and CEO Allen Drennan. "As gaming becomes more and more sophisticated, real- time will become a requirement to not only power the game but to allow players to communicate instantly during play. By eliminating standard VoIP communication delays, players can enjoy a more stimulating multiplayer game experience."
