The Cyberathlete Professional League
(CPL), the world's first professional video game sports organization, today
announced that professional and amateur gamers from all over the country
will compete for more than $100,000 in cash and prizes at the Summer 2007
CPL Championships, which will be held Aug. 30-Sept. 2 at the Hilton
Anatole Hotel in Dallas, Texas.
The highlight of the Summer Championships is the $40,000 U.S. stop of
the four-continent 2007 CPL World Tour, sponsored by Sierra
Entertainment, during which an impressive field of world-class contestants
will vie for cash prizes and a chance to compete at the $300,000 CPL World
Tour Grand Finals later this year.
The main event features exciting multiplayer tournaments for the
critically acclaimed titles F.E.A.R. (First Encounter Assault Recon), a
first-person paranormal action thriller, and World in Conflict, the next-
generation action strategy game currently available only through the CPL
In addition to the World Tour tournaments, the Summer Championships
will stage a number of other competitions for registered participants,
including a four-versus-four Gears of War tournament and "Bring Your Own
Computer" tournaments for Counter Strike: Source and America's Army, each
with $10,000 in cash prizes.
Spectators will also be able to participate in a wide variety of open
competitions, for critically acclaimed and commercial smash titles such as
Guitar Hero II, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 and NBA 2K7 on Xbox 360,
Super Smash Brothers Melee on Nintendo GameCube and Fury on the PC.
